What Do I Do As a Foreign Service Facility Manager

Janet has always had a tough time describing what I do to people. Part of the challenge is that I haven’t always had an easily categorized job, but I think it has more to do with a lack of understanding of what a facility manager does.

In some ways the title is self-explanatory. Facilities management involves oversight of facility operations, management of repair and construction projects, and most importantly assurance of customer satisfaction.

After all my schooling, experience, training and preparation to be a great facility manager this video shows what I really should expect when I walk into my job on my first day in Oslo. Did I mention that customer service is really important?

Key to the Video
Gray suit- my boss
Tan suit- me
Seabee - Navy construction battalion
CB Richard Ellis- A big real estate company
OBO- Overseas Building Operations (responsible for facilities/construction)
FSI- Foreign Service Institute (this is where we are getting our training)
ICASS Score- Customer satisfaction survey
